Relational Alchemy Sessions
Vedic Relationship Counseling for Couples, Families, friends, & Colleagues
Relational Alchemy Sessions are non-clinical, consciousness-based relationship counseling for two people, offered virtually worldwide by Jess Marie, a Certified Vedic Counselor. Sessions serve romantic partners, parents & teens, siblings, family members, friends, colleagues, and ‘boss’ & employee pairings. The work draws on Alchemical Psychology, Āyurvedik Psychology, Yogic & Vedāntic Psychology and Core Energetics, and treats the relationship itself as a living third Being with its own patterns & intelligence.
Each person begins with an individual intake, followed by joint sessions of sixty or ninety minutes that combine guided dialogue, joint Self-inquiry and practices carried between sessions.
The Same Place, Again
One knows the moment before it arrives. A tone shifts, a sentence lands wrong, and two people who care about each other are suddenly standing in a conversation they have had a hundred times. The words change; the shape stays. Afterward, each one distances their Self quietly certain that the other started it.
The pattern belongs to both people, and it belongs to something larger than either of them: the relationship itself. That larger thing is where Relational Alchemy works.
The Relationship as a Third Being
Every relationship holds three: there are two Beings, and there is the one relationship, which carries its own memory, its own reflexes, and its own intelligence. Two gentle people can create a harsh third. Two anxious people can create one that never rests. Much of what each person experiences as the other's behavior is the third speaking through both.
Relational Alchemy holds that third as the vessel of The Work. Three understandings guide it:
The relationship as a third Being. The relationship is tended as a living presence with needs of its own, distinct from either person's wants.
Sambandha as a practice. Sambandha (from sam, together, & bandha, binding) is the Sanskrit word for relationship: “that which binds together.” A bond is something two people practice daily, in the way they turn toward each other, repair & return.
Relationship as the mirror of Self Work. No practice reveals one's saṃskāras (the grooves left by past experience) as quickly as closeness does. The relationship becomes the most honest teacher of one's own Self Work (ātma-sādhana).
Two Tracks ::
-
For romantic & life partners, parents & teens (ages thirteen to seventeen), adult family relationships, siblings, family members, friends, etc.
Common threads include the recurring argument, emotional distance, codependent patterns, the pursuer & the one who withdraws, inherited family roles, and the tender renegotiation between a parent & a teen who is becoming their own Being.
-
For colleagues, ‘boss’ & employee, ‘boss’ & assistant, etc.
Common threads include communication that has gone brittle, unspoken resentments, mismatched working rhythms, and power that is felt more than named.
Sessions may be arranged by the two people themselves or by an employer. Session content remains private to the two participants, of course.
Four Lenses ::
-
The Alchemists worked within the vas hermeticum (the sealed vessel) in which transformation could safely occur. A committed relationship is such a vessel. Two operations of The Great Work carry most relational healing.
Separation is the patient sorting of what is genuinely one's own from what was inherited, absorbed or performed for another's comfort.
Conjunction (coniunctio) is the deliberate rejoining that follows, forming a bond between two whole people.
Solve et coagula, dissolve & recombine, names the rhythm of every relationship that deepens over time.
-
Āyurveda recognizes three doṣas, or constitutional energies, that shape the mind as well as the body. When stressed, a vāta nature (air & space) tends toward anxiety, scattered speech and sudden withdrawal. A pitta nature (fire & water) sharpens toward criticism, urgency and the need to be right. A kapha nature (earth & water) tends to go quiet, hold on & avoid conflict altogether. A vāta–pitta pairing often meets as fire fanned by wind; a pitta–kapha pairing as heat meeting stone. Understanding each person's prakṛti (constitution) turns blame into recognition, and gives each person specific ways to settle before a hard conversation.
-
The Yoga Sūtra names five kleśas, or afflictions, and relationships display four of them with rare clarity: rāga (grasping, the demand that the other fulfill one's needs), dveṣa (aversion, the reflexive pulling away), asmitā (identification with the ego, the need to be right), and abhiniveśa (the fear of loss beneath much jealousy & control).
Vedānta adds adhyāsa, superimposition: projecting onto the person in front of one a face that belongs to someone from long ago. Its deepest offering is advaita, not-two: the recognition that beneath two personalities one awareness is present in both.
-
Core Energetics understands that unresolved feeling becomes armoring, chronic holding in the body that limits both feeling & expression. It also describes the mask (the presented, agreeable Self), the lower self (denied anger & need) and the higher Self (one's essential nature), which is reached through the lower self. Two people can understand each other perfectly and still be unable to soften in each other's presence. This lens explains why, and supports the body in catching up with the heart.
What a Session Looks Like
Initial Sessions. Each person meets with me individually initially (2 separate sessions). One arrives in the joint work having been heard fully, and I arrive understanding each person's history, intentions, concerns, requests, and hopes for the relationship. This session is also focused on one’s Sacred Blueprint Analysis: a comprehensive, personally authored analysis & synthesis Note exploring one's Āyurvedic constitution (Prakṛti | Vikṛti | Guṇas), Vedic birth chart (Jyotiṣa), and Human Design delivered as a lasting reference document one can sit with and return to across seasons.
Follow-Up Sessions. Offered as 60mins or 90mins, booked one at a time at the pace the relationship asks, or a set amount of sessions of a weekly basis for a certain amount of time.
Guided dialogue. Structured speaking & listening that slows the conversation enough for each person to hear what the other is actually saying.
Self-inquiry. Contemplative questions explored together, turning attention from “Who is at fault?” toward “What is happening between us?” and “What is it asking of us?”
Self Work in-between sessions. A specific practice or reflection for the days ahead, so The Work continues where the relationship actually lives. Resources can include ::
recorded guided practices (meditation, reflection, movement, breath, etc.)
journaling journeys
etc.
Scope & Care
Joint sessions are offered where both people can speak freely & safely.
Some situations are better served another way ::
Abuse or coercive control.
Active addiction.
Legal or custody proceedings. (Relational Alchemy holds no evaluative or court-related role.)
Workplace matters requiring formal process. (HR or professional mediation is the appropriate home for this.)
